"RECYCLING
BUDDIES"

The
City of Athens Department of Public Works would like to announce a
new program being implemented. This new program is designed to help
increase the amount of material being recycled in Athens. "RECYCLING
BUDDIES" is a neighborhood program consisting of volunteers from
different neighborhoods, schools and businesses working together to
promote and teach recycling to their neighbors.
Residents
can create a "RECYCLING BUDDIES" program in their neighborhood
by becoming a volunteer or coordinator. Volunteers will be responsible
for recycling in their homes. Coordinators will register new members
and transfer materials collected to the Recycling Center, located
on Rocky Mount Road in Athens.
The
City of Athens Department of Public Works will strive to double the
amount of materials taken to the local recycling center. In order
to achieve this goal, the Public Works Department and Keep McMinn
Beautiful will collaborate with local neighborhoods to increase awareness
regarding recycling and the "RECYCLING BUDDIES" program.
The
City of Athens hopes to encourage residents to participate by offering
incentives to join the program. Public Works will hold drawings through
which rewards will be given to participants.
