Leaf Line
Leaf
Line is the loose-leaf vacuuming program implemented each
fall. Public Works leaf trucks hit the roads vacuuming raked
leaves from the curb of Athens residences. It is hard to predict
Mother Nature, so the work begins in earnest when the majority
of leaves have fallen.

for 2007-08
The City of Athens Public Works Department
wishes to announce that loose leaf collection will now be
by call-in only. Please call 744-2746 to be placed on a work
list to have your loose leaves vacuumed up curbside.
The last day of loose leaf collection will
be Friday, February 22, 2008. Anyone placing leaves at the
roadside for pickup after this date will be required to bag
their leaves in order for Public Works to pick them up.
*An Important Note - In order to create
a more efficient leaf collection system: Leaf
Routes Have Changed .
Do not expect the same leaf collection service
that you have received in past years. For the earliest possible
leaf collection, rake your leaves 3 to 5 feet from your curb
As Soon As Possible. Leaf crews will be operating in
different parts of Athens simultaneously.
Public Works is now operating three crews
on leaf collection; one specifically dedicated to curbed street
collections.
*Alternatives to Public
Works Leaf Collection:
- You may bag your leaves.
Bagged leaves will be collected by the Public Works Department
on the Brush/Junk route.
- You can mulch your leaves
with a mulching mower. Mulched leaves are a nutrient source
for grass and can aid in the growth of a healthier lawn.
Please place
brush and junk in a separate pile.
Do NOT rake leaves
into the roadway.
