Spay / Neuter Grants
The City of Athens wishes to announce the availability
of a limited amount of Spay/Neuter Grants for low income residents
of Athens and McMinn County. These grants will be available
beginning March 1, 2007.
PetSmart Charities, Inc. is making this grant
available. PetSmart Charities, Inc. works to improve the quality
of life for companion animals by creating and supporting programs
that save the lives of homeless pets, facilitating adoptions
through in-store programs, raising the awareness of companion
animal welfare issues and promoting healthy relationships
between people and pets.
This program offers free spay/neuter services
for pets in the McMinn County area. The City of Athens Animal
Shelter's goal is to help reduce pet overpopulation in our
area.
This grant is only available to low income,
McMinn County residents with companion animals. This grant
cannot be used for adopted animals. Additionally, there will
be a limit of two Spay/Neuter Grants per household.
Applicants may complete a Spay/Neuter Grant
form at the City of Athens Animal Shelter and must bring required
information (see below) to the shelter for pre-approval. At
that time approved grants will be scheduled for either the
mobile spay/neuter unit or with a participating local veterinarian.
Information applicants will need to bring include:
proof of identity (a valid drivers license or utility bill),
proof of income and proof of age (this grant is only available
to those over 18 years old).
