Citizens Police Academy

 

The Athens Police Department has been instructing a forty (40) hour program since 1994 titled the Citizen's Police Academy as a public service to the Athens/McMinn community. The program allows the Police Department to share our operation in exchange for ideas on how to improve the quality of life for the businesses and citizens of our community.

The class is shared with Tennessee Wesleyan College. Through the Criminal Justice Department students can earn credit toward their degree. (this is the only Citizen's Police Academy that is partnershipping with a college and students receive credit).

Schedule:

  • One (1) class each Spring
  • Ten (10) consecutive weeks/ One (1) day each week
  • Four (4) hours each class/6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
  • No cost
  • Enrollment is approximately twenty-five (25) citizens per class
