Municipal Code

The City Charter is the document that established the form of government for the City of Athens. The charter is where you will find information on items such as elections, city council, city manager, departments, and other items relating to the creation and structure of the city.

The Municipal Code is a collection of regulations and laws that speak specifically to Athens. The Municipal Code is where you will find information on law enforcement, building codes, zoning, streets, municipal offenses, and many other regulations.

The Charter and the Municipal Code are both available for you to view through the University of Tennessee, Municipal Technical Advisory Service, (MTAS) web site. Please click on the MTAS link provided below to access the Athens Municipal Code. Once there click on the yellow "codes by city" link and then select Athens.
