The City
Charter is the document that established the form of government
for the City of Athens. The charter is where you will find information
on items such as elections, city council, city manager, departments,
and other items relating to the creation and structure of the
city.
The Municipal
Code is a collection of regulations and laws that speak specifically
to Athens. The Municipal Code is where you will find information
on law enforcement, building codes, zoning, streets, municipal
offenses, and many other regulations.
The Charter
and the Municipal Code are both available for you to view through
the University of Tennessee, Municipal Technical Advisory Service,
(MTAS) web site. Please click on the MTAS link provided below
to access the Athens Municipal Code. Once there click on the
yellow "codes by city" link and then select Athens. While you
are visiting MTAS you will also have access to current population
data and other economic facts about Athens.
