Benefits
Holidays
- Nine legal holidays are observed by the employees of the
City of Athens:
New Year's Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day,
Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Thanksgiving
Friday, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.
Vacation Leave
- Employees earn vacation leave as follows:
6 mos. - 1 year: Six (6) days
2 to 10 years: Twelve (12) days annually (max 18 days)
11 to 20 years: Fifteen (15) days annually (max 22.5 days)
21+ years: Twenty-one (21) days annually (max 31.5 days)
Sick Leave
- One (1) working day per month of service or twelve (12)
days per year. A maximum of 720 hours, or ninety (90) days
of sick leave may be accrued.
Medical Insurance
- A fully funded major medical insurance program is
provided and the City pays 52% of the monthly premium.
Voluntary Dental
Insurance - Monthly
premiums are paid by the employee through payroll deduction.
Voluntary Vision
Insurance - Monthly
premiums are paid by the employee through payroll deduction.
Group Term Life
Insurance and Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) - The monthly premium is divided equally between the
employee and the City of Athens.
Long Term Disability
- This plan pays a monthly benefit that is designed
to partially replace income lost during periods of total disability
as a result of injury or illness. The monthly premiums are
paid fully by the City of Athens.
