Commuity Development Director
Harold R. Hunter
As
Director of the Community Development Department for the City
of Athens, Tennessee, I would like to personally thank you
for visiting our City's webpage. I was privileged to have
been a citizen of Athens for over sixty years and have also
been employed by the City of Athens for over forty years.
I began my career with the City while still in school working
seasonal jobs in the Public Works Department. After completing
school and my military obligation, I began full time employment
with the City serving in the fire, police, and codes enforcement
divisions, and presently serving as Community Development
Director.
As you will notice on our webpage, the Community
Development Department consists of the Division of Building
and Inspections, the Division of Codes Enforcement and Cemeteries,
and the Administration. The Administration consists of the
Athens Municipal Regional Planning Commission, the Athens
Board of Zoning Appeals, the Board of Adjustments and Appeals,
and the administering of the National Flood Insurance Program.
Athens is a thriving community with an abundance
of natural resources, a beautiful setting, and a wonderful
place to live and work. Athens is known and recognized for
its low crime rate, low taxes, and the ideal place to locate
and raise a family, being halfway between Knoxville and Chattanooga
with I-75 running through this pictorial setting.
