Vice Mayor John Proffitt, Jr.

 

Vice Mayor John Proffitt, Jr. was elected to the Athens City Council in June 1995 and was reelected to serve another four year term in November 2000. He was first appointed Vice Mayor in January 1999 and was reappointed to that position following the November 2000 election. He was appointed Mayor in October of 2002 and served in that office until November 2002. He was appointed Vice Mayor once again in November 2002 and will serve in that position for two years. His second term on the Council will expire in November 2004. Mayor Proffitt has served on numerous boards and committees including the Athens Regional Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, McMinn County Senior Citizens, the Exposition Center Committee, and the McMinn County Department of Juvenile Services. Additionally, he serves as a member of the TML Board of Directors. Mayor Proffitt, a longtime resident of Athens and McMinn County, is employed as Residential Marketing Manager for TVA, serves as President of the Home Builders’ Association of Tennessee Associates Council, and is an active member of the Athens Kiwanis Club.

Vice Mayor Proffitt currently represents the City Council on the McMinn County Economic Development Authority and is an ex-officio member of the Recreation Advisory Board.
