On September 2, 2000, the City of Athens, TN officially
dedicated Veterans Memorial Park in honor of all veterans of
the armed services. Since that time, several groups have placed
individual monuments in the park in honor of their comrades.
Now it is your turn. The city is in the process of remodeling
the park plaza, and you can be a part of this historical occasion.
As part of this effort, sections of the plaza and walking trail
will be paved with bricks inscribed with the names of veterans.
That's where you come in. The City of Athens is making these
bricks available to individuals wishing to honor a veteran.
Bricks may be purchased at anytime; however, during
the initial offering from October 1, 2001, until March 1, 2002,
bricks will be priced at only $25 per brick. After March 1,
2002, brick prices will increase to $50 per brick. When purchasing
your brick, you may also choose to purchase a 1 ¼"
x 3" replica take home brick. During the initial offering
period, replicas may be purchased for $10. After March 1, 2002,
the replicas will increase to $20 per brick. You may also have
your replica shipped to you for an additional $5 fee. All other
replicas will be delivered to Athens City Hall for pickup.
Each brick placed on the walkway and each replica
will be laser engraved with the name and branch of service of
the honored veteran.
Each 4" x 8" brick will have one line
for the name (20 characters including spaces and punctuation)
and one line for the branch of service. (See photo below for
example.)
"The City of Athens is pleased to offer
this means of honoring our veterans. This small token of our
appreciation is a permanent way of recognizing those whose service
has meant so much to all of us."

Director of Parks and Recreation
