2001 Leaf Pickup Schedule Announced

City of Athens Public Works Department
Leaf Collection Service

The City of Athens is pleased to announce the first round of the Leaf Vacuum Collection Schedule that will begin the week of November 5, 2001.

Leaf collection is one of the most popular and heavily used services provided by the City. Leaves are collected from practically every household in Athens.

The main goal of the leaf collection program is to provide the most convenient and effective service at the lowest possible cost. This is accomplished by sending the crews out into collection areas or zones. The crews will work in each zone until the entire City has been covered. They will then start back over the City again. Each zone will be covered at least twice.

Fall Leaf Collection Service Guidelines
1. Please rake leaves into a pile at the curb. When the leaves are in piles City crews can move more quickly through the neighborhoods.
2. Leaves are to be placed curbside on or just before the scheduled pickup dates.
3. Where possible, avoid piling leaves where cars are parked or where tree limbs make access difficult. PLEASE DO NOT PLACE LEAVES IN THE STREET.
4. Please remove tree limbs, rocks, bricks and any other debris that might be mixed in with leaves. These materials damage the equipment and will cause service delays. Leaves mixed with other materials will not be picked up.
5. If you have bagged leaves, place them at the curb and call the Public Works Service Center at 744-2745 or 744-2746 to request pick up.
6. A separate crew picks up brush. Call if you have brush to be picked up.
7. The vacuum motor on the leaf trucks generates noise and a certain amount of dust. If the season is dry, there is sure to be a great deal of dust from the equipment. We apologize for the inconvenience and we will continue to do our best to control dust.
8. The crews work on a tight schedule, so once they complete a pass in your neighborhood they cannot come back until the next scheduled pass. Each neighborhood will receive at least two (2) passes.

Listed below are the dates and areas where the leaf crews will be as the weather permits:
